 Nuke-Bloodaxe.Org Sponsors Doujin Overload
Studio Development In keeping with the aim of promoting local Anime and Manga projects in New Zealand, Nuke-Bloodaxe.Org will be sponsoring the advertising component of the festival.

Our requirements are very minimalistic for sponsorship, with the mere requirement of the Golden Logo, and site address to be included on the poster. There may be a few posters advertising Project Marcos at the festival, but nothing beyond that. After all, why take over the event merely because some money has been contributed, the honour is in simply having helped the event.

There had been some investigation of various possibilities with other sponsorship partners. However, the requirements of many organizations are fairly onerous, with such requirements as flashy logos saying "presented by ... [ company logo there ]", and additional merchandising stalls. These would not be in keeping with such an event, and would actually detract from what the event is all about, the promotion and sale of local Doujin manga/anime artists work.

This is reflective of the highly commercialised nature of the current industry in New Zealand, which has not really helped in the growth in local talent, and instead concentrated on large-scale importation and licensing of overseas material only. There is nothing wrong with this approach, but the money generated does not help to foster local talent, and as such presents a very high barrier to entry into the market.

This is not to say the local material is bad, a fair majority is actually extremely good, but it can largely only be given away because of a lack of publishing help and money to move forward. Such an industry state is not healthy, and helping the growth of local talent is extremely important to this organization as a result. The fact that we promote one key area/style is not actually detrimental, as the skills learned through the rigid Japanese approach actually allow any artist to use any style. Those of you who have seen what happens when a normal comic artist, taught only western methods, attempts to draw Manga/Anime will know exactly what I mean. Japanese Anime/Manga artists have not been observed - to my knowledge - to have this problem when hired to draw western style comics.
